My sweetie pie’s first manicure!

Kaley loves playing with all my nail polish bottles and I have been doing her toes for a long time. I usually do them while she is napping and she just wakes up with painted toenails!

I think she got so into it that she decided she could even sit still and be patient while waiting for it to dry. So I did her toes and her nails today for the first time.

She picked s-he stylezone 427, a pink holo! ๐Ÿ™‚

OPI – Black Spotted

I have had Black Spotted for a few years and never tried it, so I finally opened it!

I’ve never posted a pedicure here before, but I had to do this quickly as my little sweetie pie napped… Didn’t have time to do toes and nails!

I started with half neon yellow and half neon pink, then I applied it on top.

The awesome neon colors are from the China Glaze Lite Brites. Whip It Good (yellow) and Lip Smackin’ Good (pink). Love these colors!

The tag on the Black Spotted bottle says to use a very thin layer.

It came out looking pretty cool, but not the round spots that I expected after looking at other swatches online. I will be playing with this one again to figure it out.

When you have a 2 year old, you don’t have a lot of time to re-do your nails! You’re lucky to get to do them in the first place. ๐Ÿ™‚

OPI Infinite Shine Lacquer โ€“ Pretty Pink Perseveres

Since I loved the Seche Vite gelโ€“ like lacquer, I had to try the OPI version also. It lasted me seven days, and for me that is a long time!
This one is Pretty Pink Perseveres. It’s my perfect opaque light pink because I have such light skin.

Seche Premier Colour

I have been wanting to try these gel โ€“ like polishes, and the girl at Sally beauty suggested this brand. Since they don’t have many colors yet, I just got the black one, Alter Ego.

I stamped with china glaze emotion.  I am hoping that since I used the proper base and topcoat for Seche Premier Colour, it will last at least a week!

The application was awesome. Two coats was completely opaque. It also dried very quickly!

Baby Kaley is here!

I have to say I was scared to death about going into labor and giving birth… And the recovery after. Every single part of this has been SO much easier than everyone says it is!

Those of you with little ones of your own know about this magic that just happens when you hold and watch their faces for the first time… My husband and I are just a big mess of goo over this little girl!! The love is overwhelming!

Anyway, here’s Kaley Isabella! ๐Ÿ™‚
6lb 13oz – Made of sugar and spice and everything nice!

She can take any of my nail polishes she ever wants! haha

Almost a Mommy, sorry for being MIA!

It has been hard staying away from the nail polish while being pregnant. I have missed the polishes and the blogging! (Although I might have enjoyed the slowing of all the polish buying for once!)

I am due to have my baby within the week here, and although for another few months I might be too tired to get polishing and blogging again, I know that having a daughter will make it so much more fun for years to come!

She will definitely have her pick of any color she could ever want from my huge stash. ๐Ÿ™‚

So although I might be quiet a little longer, I won’t be gone forever!!

And by the way, I always update my blog sale page and every polish not marked in red font is still up for grabs. So head to the Sale page if you want to see what’s left!

I just recently bought some of the new Formula X crazy effects polishes Sephora has released lately and can’t wait to give them a try and post swatches of them!

Zoya – Louise + Catrice – Have An Ice Day

I recently got Louise and wow, it is just like painting your nails with dark chocolate. It literally looks edible!
(forgive the dry cuticles, ugh!)

Then the lovely Gemma sent me Have An Ice Day from her stash and I had to wear it immediately over Louise! Its a really fine-particle holo top coat. Kind of makes whatever color you wear under it look like it just came as a holo polish!

I might as well share the news now that I’m half way through this… I’m pregnant! 20 weeks now, and I get to find out if its a boy or a girl on Wednesday. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s why I’ve been painting my nails less… not supposed to breathe the fumes and all. I feel pretty safe with Zoya though.

Color Club Revvvolution over Zoya Lo

I saw the Vivid Lacquer stamping plates and had to get some!

This image is from VL 005. Its the famous Lorem ipsum quote block in really pretty font!

It seems like everytime I wear Zoya Lo, I love the color but really want to stamp a gray or black over it. Color Club Revvvolution is black holo that stamps nicely.

Blog Sale! Its on! First come, first served! :)

This content is also on my permanent sale page:
http://shimmerspark.com/sale/

We can do paypal, or a check if you’re in the US.

This is first come, first served. I will go by the order in which the emails arrive in my inbox.
Email -> hollyshimmerspark@gmail.com
Subject -> Blog Sale Purchase!

The best method is to use Paypal, which would go something like this:

  • Email me your list of polishes along with your Paypal account email address. Let me know what country I’m mailing to. Also let me know if you are okay to pay as Gift or not.
  • I will send you the Paypal invoice that will itemize the polish list confirmed to be yours and let you know what they cost plus the shipping cost. (I am going to charge exact USPS shipping, I’m not adding any fees or anything!)
  • If you can choose to pay as Gift, Paypal will not take a portion of our money. If you feel uncomfortable paying as Gift, then I will have to add the percentage that they charge us to your amount. They charge 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.

If you don’t want to use Paypal, I can accept a check as long as you’re in the US. You would just have to wait for me to clear your check before I send your polishes.
In that case, just email me your list of polishes and request to send a check. I’ll email you back with your confirmed list of polishes and the cost of them plus shipping.

The most risky option is trying to offer to pay with gift cards or swapping items from my MUA wish list.
Gift Cards I’ll accept are Starbucks, Sephora, Ulta, Babies R Us, Target, Walmart, or you can try me on Department Stores so I can see if they are in my area.
(If someone requests to buy a polish on your list and you’ve requested a swap, I have to go with the sale first. So you might not want to risk trying this method with the really rare and sought after polishes? I’m just trying to give everyone a way to get the ones they want.)

My MakeupAlley.com Wish List!

OPI – Stay The Night

I know I’ve been pretty non-existent lately! Its for a good reason, but a reason that makes me unable to swatch nail polish for a while… I will explain later. ๐Ÿ™‚

For now, here is a swatch from a couple of months ago that I’ve been wanting to post.

OPI – Stay The Night

I loved it in the sun! In the shade it looked pretty gritty so I added a top coat and although it took away the sand look, I ended up liking it better. It stayed on for quite a while because it didn’t chip off!

I think I’d like anything that was black and pink?

Zoya – Kissy

I was bummed that the Orly After Party just looked plain black most of the time, so I added 2 layers of Kissy!

I had never tried this one, and I was *so* much more impressed with it than I ever thought I’d be. I thought the holo rectangular strips would end up being like little strands of tinsel on your nail, but it is actually like each strip is a brightly glowing rainbow!

It sounds ridiculous, but you’d have to see it. Especially since we’ve been replacing our lights in the house with LED lights, every time those would catch my nails, I’d be staring at the rainbows.

Pure Ice – Pardon My French (lemming!)

My story about looking everywhere for Pardon My French has such a happy ending! Pure Ice sent it to me themselves! I am so thankful to them, I hope they know it. ๐Ÿ™‚

They saw my post somehow and answered the call, doesn’t that just make you love them even more? Generous and good to their customers beyond belief!

Anyway, I’ll get to the swatch! It was more than I even expected. I didn’t need a base color layer at all, and it wasn’t globby like a lot of other hex glitter polishes are. It is even a peach-ish color of brown, so it is really unique. So absolutely perfect!

Essie – Sunday Funday

This is the only one I got from the new collection. I was bummed at how it turned out to be too orangey of a coral pink. It dries darker than it looks in the bottle, and the glitter doesn’t show through very well.

Here’s the most accurate representation I got of it!

When I swatched it up close, it does show the glitter a little better though. Forgive the cuticle oil, sorry! ๐Ÿ™‚

For a color like this, I think I’ll stick to China Glaze – Surreal Appeal!

China Glaze – Surreal Appeal Comparison

I had to get Surreal Appeal from the Cirque collection. It turned out to be the perfect pinkish coral creme that is bright but not a neon.

I grabbed 3 other China Glaze pinks and compared them all. The pinky nail is actually Flip Flop Fantasy but I hate that the camera can NOT capture that color no matter what I try. I went to Google Images to search for an accurate Flip Flop Fantasy swatch and there aren’t any! They all look like their cameras freaked out as well, so all I can say is…. go get it, its one of my most favorite polishes ever and you just don’t know what its like until you put it on your own nails. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, the others came out really accurately though! The bottle is Surreal Appeal, so you can see it ends up darker on the nail.

Here is a shadier swatch, followed by one with a little more light. Its Wicked Style, Sugar High, Surreal Appeal. Let’s just ignore the pinky. ๐Ÿ™‚

After comparing these, I found I don’t even like Sugar High as much anymore, its a little too blue-ish for my skin tone.

Orly – After Party

This one is black with different colors of sparkles. It isn’t really heavily glittered, like Butter London’s Black Knight, its more like a pigment type of sparkle, if that makes sense.

I found that in the shade or from far away, it just looks black. But in the light, I love the colors that they chose to flash… teal, cyan, pink, purple… all of the great girly colors!

The colors are more apparent in the bottle than on the nail:

I also took a blurry-on-purpose shot that kind of showed the colors a little better!

Holly

New Year Snowflakes

Before my husband and I left for a quick New Year trip, I wanted to stamp some snowflakes with one of my new Bundle Monster plates.

I used Konad White, and BM-323. This is over the China Glaze Refreshmint + Piggy Polish Tic Tac Toes that I posted about earlier.

Its so cute together!

Okay, I’m getting my giveaway ready to post next. ๐Ÿ™‚

Piggy Polish – Tic Tac Toes Over China Glaze – Refreshmint

I know you’ve seen this one before, but how can you see it too much? ๐Ÿ™‚

Refreshmint, 2 coats – No streaks or bubbles, its just so perfect!

I used it for a base because Tic Tac Toes is a little on the sheer side. Plus I thought it would help it look more minty for New Year’s Eve.

This one wasn’t swatched enough in the polish world in my opinion. I’m not sure how so many people missed out on it. Its too pretty! No hidden shimmer, you can see the sparkly shimmer in any light.

Speaking of that, I’ll keep apologizing for the light in these swatches until I get a perfect swatching spot in our new home. Hopefully I’ll figure that out by Spring at least? ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year! 2012 was way too crazy for me, so I’m really looking forward to enjoying 2013.
