Favorite Yellows

My favorite yellow was always American Apparel – Butter ( https://hollyshimmerspark.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/american-apparel-butter/ ), but now these are my two favorites!

The top one is Orly – Worth Millions and the bottom is China Glaze – Whip It.

The main difference is that Worth Millions is more neon, and Whip It is more pastel. 🙂

OPI – Black Spotted

I have had Black Spotted for a few years and never tried it, so I finally opened it!

I’ve never posted a pedicure here before, but I had to do this quickly as my little sweetie pie napped… Didn’t have time to do toes and nails!

I started with half neon yellow and half neon pink, then I applied it on top.

The awesome neon colors are from the China Glaze Lite Brites. Whip It Good (yellow) and Lip Smackin’ Good (pink). Love these colors!

The tag on the Black Spotted bottle says to use a very thin layer.

It came out looking pretty cool, but not the round spots that I expected after looking at other swatches online. I will be playing with this one again to figure it out.

When you have a 2 year old, you don’t have a lot of time to re-do your nails! You’re lucky to get to do them in the first place. 🙂

Seche Premier Colour

I have been wanting to try these gel – like polishes, and the girl at Sally beauty suggested this brand. Since they don’t have many colors yet, I just got the black one, Alter Ego.

I stamped with china glaze emotion.  I am hoping that since I used the proper base and topcoat for Seche Premier Colour, it will last at least a week!

The application was awesome. Two coats was completely opaque. It also dried very quickly!

Blog Sale! Its on! First come, first served! :)

This content is also on my permanent sale page:
http://shimmerspark.com/sale/

We can do paypal, or a check if you’re in the US.

This is first come, first served. I will go by the order in which the emails arrive in my inbox.
Email -> hollyshimmerspark@gmail.com
Subject -> Blog Sale Purchase!

The best method is to use Paypal, which would go something like this:

  • Email me your list of polishes along with your Paypal account email address. Let me know what country I’m mailing to. Also let me know if you are okay to pay as Gift or not.
  • I will send you the Paypal invoice that will itemize the polish list confirmed to be yours and let you know what they cost plus the shipping cost. (I am going to charge exact USPS shipping, I’m not adding any fees or anything!)
  • If you can choose to pay as Gift, Paypal will not take a portion of our money. If you feel uncomfortable paying as Gift, then I will have to add the percentage that they charge us to your amount. They charge 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.

If you don’t want to use Paypal, I can accept a check as long as you’re in the US. You would just have to wait for me to clear your check before I send your polishes.
In that case, just email me your list of polishes and request to send a check. I’ll email you back with your confirmed list of polishes and the cost of them plus shipping.

The most risky option is trying to offer to pay with gift cards or swapping items from my MUA wish list.
Gift Cards I’ll accept are Starbucks, Sephora, Ulta, Babies R Us, Target, Walmart, or you can try me on Department Stores so I can see if they are in my area.
(If someone requests to buy a polish on your list and you’ve requested a swap, I have to go with the sale first. So you might not want to risk trying this method with the really rare and sought after polishes? I’m just trying to give everyone a way to get the ones they want.)

China Glaze – Surreal Appeal Comparison

I had to get Surreal Appeal from the Cirque collection. It turned out to be the perfect pinkish coral creme that is bright but not a neon.

I grabbed 3 other China Glaze pinks and compared them all. The pinky nail is actually Flip Flop Fantasy but I hate that the camera can NOT capture that color no matter what I try. I went to Google Images to search for an accurate Flip Flop Fantasy swatch and there aren’t any! They all look like their cameras freaked out as well, so all I can say is…. go get it, its one of my most favorite polishes ever and you just don’t know what its like until you put it on your own nails. 🙂

Anyway, the others came out really accurately though! The bottle is Surreal Appeal, so you can see it ends up darker on the nail.

Here is a shadier swatch, followed by one with a little more light. Its Wicked Style, Sugar High, Surreal Appeal. Let’s just ignore the pinky. 🙂

After comparing these, I found I don’t even like Sugar High as much anymore, its a little too blue-ish for my skin tone.

New Year Snowflakes

Before my husband and I left for a quick New Year trip, I wanted to stamp some snowflakes with one of my new Bundle Monster plates.

I used Konad White, and BM-323. This is over the China Glaze Refreshmint + Piggy Polish Tic Tac Toes that I posted about earlier.

Its so cute together!

Okay, I’m getting my giveaway ready to post next. 🙂

Piggy Polish – Tic Tac Toes Over China Glaze – Refreshmint

I know you’ve seen this one before, but how can you see it too much? 🙂

Refreshmint, 2 coats – No streaks or bubbles, its just so perfect!

I used it for a base because Tic Tac Toes is a little on the sheer side. Plus I thought it would help it look more minty for New Year’s Eve.

This one wasn’t swatched enough in the polish world in my opinion. I’m not sure how so many people missed out on it. Its too pretty! No hidden shimmer, you can see the sparkly shimmer in any light.

Speaking of that, I’ll keep apologizing for the light in these swatches until I get a perfect swatching spot in our new home. Hopefully I’ll figure that out by Spring at least? 🙂

Happy New Year! 2012 was way too crazy for me, so I’m really looking forward to enjoying 2013.

Party Hearty

I finally unpacked my nail polish and found my China Glaze Party Hearty, just in time for our work Christmas party. It was awesome, they had it at a nice hotel, bought us and our dates food, drinks, and even cab vouchers!

Anyway, I had to swatch with my right hand for once since my left hand still has a short ugly nail that needs to grow.

I started with OPI Germanicure to have a darker base, then covered it with China Glaze Ruby Pumps! I left my toes like that, but on my nails, I added a layer of Party Hearty. 🙂

I also got a cool set together for my next giveaway! It will include China Glaze, Essie, Nubar, Color Club, Milani, Duri, Del Sol, Nox Twilight, and even a Lynnderella!

Yep, I’m going to giveaway this sweet thing – A new, unused, unswatched, virgin Snow Angel!

Christmasy Swatches

After going through all of my posts to update links for my new server, I kept my favorite Christmasy swatches aside to put in one entry. 🙂

I might as well try the cool WordPress “Gallery in a post” feature!

Octoberfranken…

What do you get when you take Orly Rock Solid and pour in a bunch of China Glaze Hawaiian Punch, NYX Maroon, and Spoiled Cougar Attack?

Isn’t it pretty? When I got Rock Solid, I was bummed that it was just gray and not brown at all, so I thought I’d make it burgundy with some NYX Maroon. Then it was too purple and I wanted it a little pinker, so I added the China Glaze Hawaiian Punch. Then I remembered I wanted brown in the first place and dumped the Spoiled Cougar Attack in. haha!

Now I have a full bottle of this awesomeness!

China Glaze – Pink Plumeria

I’m trying to get settled into my new home here, which includes trying to find a new spot for swatching! As you’ll see, I haven’t found the right spot yet. But I didn’t want it to keep me from swatching my favorite new China Glaze neon!

Pink Plumeria
China Glaze - Pink Plumeria

This one really surprised me! I didn’t expect it to be so shimmery! The pop kind of comes from a milky shimmer underneath, and then if you look closely, you can see this really warm hidden shimmer that comes out at certain angles.

China Glaze - Pink Plumeria

I got the Pixi Glow polish too, and it looks similar in the bottle, I’ll have to do a comparison!

Belated Giveaway Winners next! So sorry for the worst delay ever, but hopefully a wedding, honeymoon and moving in with the new hubby is a good enough excuse that I’ll only use once!? 😀

Honeymoon!!

I’m in Hawaii!! And finally took off my french tips that were getting all screwed up anyway.

I made this franken before the wedding… RBL Poco a Poco was too light so I added China Glaze IX, Nicole by OPI You’re An Angel, and OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes and made this gorgeousness!!
Honeymoon Nails!

From our beach condo in Maui! Loving this view!!!!
Honeymoon Nails and our awesome view!!

Here’s one from our last beach condo in Kuai, although in that one we had to walk a bit out the door for this view…

China Glaze – Blue Without U and a Forever 21 Polish

First of all… I’m getting married in EIGHT days! 8 days!!
And I’m moving this weekend.

So if you try to read this from a feed reader or shimmerspark.com, it might choke sometime over the next day or so. It means my server is either on a moving truck or its taking a while to set it up with my new IP in a new place to get it back online. I didn’t disappear. 🙂 I’ll make sure all of these posts are imported to the wordpress.com version of my blog that is always online, although some of the images won’t show temporarily anyway because they are on my server! haha

Anyway, onto the swatching!

I did a quick swatch of Blue Without U before, but my MUA friend Gemma sent me this gorgeous polish from Forever 21 because it reminded her of my wedding color palette, and they looked so similar!

They are both this really shimmery baby blue with specks of other colors all through it.

This is what happens when you put them over black! How crazy is that? Blue Without U turns pink and the Forever 21 polish turns bronze! I did them on alternating nails in case they were going to look so similar you’d need both sides to compare to, but what happened was definitely nothing like that.

I wish I could tell you how to get this Forever 21 polish, but I can’t. When she sent it, I tried looking it up by the SKU number and got absolutely nowhere. And since they don’t have names, how can you ever search for them on swap sites or ebay, or blog sales, etc!?

In case you do know a way, here is the label for you! 🙂

If you like Blue Without U, I’ll post an excerpt from the blog post about this one swatched alone, over black, and over white:
Here it is by itself on the index and middle fingers, over white on the ring finger, and over black on the pinky – Its almost kind of ugly by itself, but over white it is a really pretty blue… and over black, all you can see is the pink!

Okay… well, I’M SO EXCITED about my wedding next week!!
If you don’t hear from me for a few weeks, other than announcing the Spring Giveaway Winners, its because I’ll be on my honeymoon!!! Hawaii here we come, and we couldn’t need it more than right NOW when we are running around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to finish 100 wedding details with all of these wedding vendors AND packing and moving in together!
xoxo

China Glaze – Foie Gras

I still can’t get enough of these creme polishes that are this rich color that looks taupe sometimes, plummy at other times, kind of greyish…

They always surprise me! I have to compare this to Below Deck, of course. It has a similar mix of shades but this one is more brown.

I also have to rave about the formula. It is so opaque that two coats is perfect and it didn’t dry too fast and become gloppy like some other brands I have polishes like this in. It will dry a tiny bit darker than the color you see in the bottle.

Speaking of that though, if you notice a little bit of bubbliness to this swatch, it isn’t the polish’s fault this time, I just overdid it on the Mavala Barrier Base + Sally Hansen Nail Quencher layers beneath it since my nails had gotten dry.

With the next post, its giveaway time again! 🙂

China Glaze – Ahoy over Duri Night – Before Christmas

I love the way Ahoy looks but its too bright for me, so I layered it over a darker jelly-ish color that had gold glitter in it.

Its awesome because the gold glitter just shines through as a bright sparkle along with the pink glass flecks that are in Ahoy!

This was Duri – Night Before Christmas by itself…

Nfu Oh – 63 over China Glaze – Concrete Catwalk

I wanted to use the new Konad plate I got. It is one of their latest – m85.

I started with China Glaze – Concrete Catwalk and then stamped with a pink holo, Nfu Oh 63. I love stamping with these because it does look pink and gray mostly, but in the sun you can really see the rainbow appear in the stamped design!

nfuoh63concretecatwalk

My Valentine's Nails! Cherry O's nail foils!

Okay this was my first time using nail foils so I made a video! I didn’t get to edit/upload yet but I wanted to at least show the swatches for now.

Aren’t they neato? I think I love nail foils!

I started with China Glaze – Long Kiss, because it was a similar red to put underneath. (I hear you do that in case there are “bald spots”.)

It looked so similar to Heart of Africa to me, but when I looked really super closely, Long Kiss was more of a warm-toned shade and Heart of Africa was more of a wine-toned shade. Very similar though, see?

I even love the adhesive that comes with nail foils! When you layer it on, it looks so UV, like purple and blue and oil-slick-ish.

I got the foil and adhesive from dollarnailart.com. (Careful, its addicting!)

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day! I can’t wait to eat some chocolate cake. 🙂

China Glaze Crystal Ball over You Move Me

When I was going to visit family, I thought the brown tone looked weird with my gray shirt, so I grabbed my trusty Crystal Ball and layered it on top.

Whenever something looks a little weird, I put Crystal Ball on it, and it becomes amazing! haha
