Favorite Yellows

My favorite yellow was always American Apparel – Butter ( https://hollyshimmerspark.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/american-apparel-butter/ ), but now these are my two favorites!

The top one is Orly – Worth Millions and the bottom is China Glaze – Whip It.

The main difference is that Worth Millions is more neon, and Whip It is more pastel. 🙂

Spring Giveaway!

That pretty glowing one there at the top is from Night Reflections! Its the clear with glitter that glows Aqua in the dark! Fresh from their shop. Since I have my polishes up on a rack, I can see this one glowing twice as much as my others, even the OPI and China Glaze polishes I have that are glow in the dark! The first winner will get that plus 4 of the others.

I want to pick 3 winners again. So I’ll ask you what your favorite items are from the rest of them, and the first winner will get 4! The next two will get 3 each. Last time I was able to give everyone something they wanted, so it was pretty fun!

Left to Right: Sally Hansen – Ice, AQumore – P039, LA Girls – Enchanting, NYX – Perfect Gray, Sinful Colors – Easy Going, NYX – Dreamy Glitter, Essence – King of Mints, Revlon – Starry Pink (aka Popular), FingerPaints – Gossamer White, and a limited edition tinted SoftLips SPF 15 in pearl (never opened, of course)!

The difference now is… I have no more Google Friend Connect. So there went my followers and my method of doing giveaways. (Until we figure out the best new way, that is!)

So this time, to enter, you can do one of two things, or both for an extra entry!

1. Use the giveaway picture and post/blog about this somewhere, put the URL to your post into the form
(The link to the giveaway is -> http://shimmerspark.com/posts/spring-giveaway-2012)

2. Become a follower in another type of network and comment to tell me your username on that network

(Just go on my sidebar over to the right and pick from Google+ Circles, HelloCotton, Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, or LinkyFollowers. Become a follower and post a comment to this entry to let me know what your username is for what network. If you have trouble with the new comments system, please email me or send a facebook message/wall post!)

I’ll close this one before my wedding, so I’ll go with May 18th!

As always, thank you again so much for reading my blog! I love giving you guys presents so I can do more than just say thank you!

Holly

Water marble!

I made a second attempt at making you guys a tutorial video!

This time, the camera was much better… I’m not sure the educational part was as good since it was my first time water marbling, but hopefully you’ll learn something, even if its how not to? 🙂

The first try was not a success, so I learned something myself… but my second time came out pretty cool! Next time I should be able to do it for a real manicure.

(The polishes I use here are hard candy sky, entity brown plum, color club vintage couture, eyeko pastel, zoya shimmer, and maybelline pink halo.)

Happy Easter! And some pastel blue comparisons…

Here is Eyeko – Pastel Polish!

The bottle shows a lot of hidden shimmer like Hard Candy – Sky, so they are very similar but I think Sky has more white in the base. They are both really pretty though!

I compared it with 2 other pastel blues I’ve gotten recently.
From left to right, Eyeko – Pastel, Color Club – Take Me To Your Chateau, love & beauty – Pearlescent Aqua, Eyeko – Pastel

The bottle in that one is love & beauty – Pearlescent Aqua from forever 21. That one has a lot of shimmer and is more sheer than the others.

Color Club’s Take Me To Your Chateau is SO opaque! It looked like that after ONE coat! No streaks, no bald spots, no cloudiness, just completely opaque. I felt like I was brushing on acrylic paint. Its a must-have!

Oh, and here are the cupcakes I made for Easter! 🙂

I was going to do American Apparel Butter with some black chickys stamped from the Konad plate with the chick, sheep, etc. but I totally ran out of time since I had to make so many cupcakes, so I’m wearing Butter London – Teddy Girl again. I love it so much!

OPI – So Many Clowns… So Little Time & Step Right Up

I had to do a side by side swatch for these because they were so similar! If you put them side by side, you can see that So Many Clowns is a warmer-toned eggshell white and Step Right Up is a very light pink.

Both go on like sheer jelly polishes, so I wanted to show you what it looked like with 2 coats and what it looked like with 5 coats.

From Left to Right, So Many Clowns 5 coats, So Many Clowns 2 coats, Step Right Up 2 coats, and Step Right Up 5 coats:

I will probably only keep Step Right Up because if I’m going to wear a sheer jelly white, I’d rather it be pink toned because the warmth of the So Many Clowns kind of enhances the little bit of yellow stain I have from wearing dark polishes a lot of the time.

I Juggle Men was my favorite from this Femme De Cirque collection though, which do you like the best? 🙂

I made Easter cupcakes with the Peeps! I’ll post a picture tomorrow with my comparison of my newest pastel blues!

Sephora by OPI – Casting Call

This one looked really bad on me although I LOVE the color of the actual polish. I almost didn’t want to bother posting the swatch, but it didn’t look so bad when I stamped on it with the American Apparel’s Coney Island pink to make it stand out a little more…

5638520139_4cc536121e_o

Here is the swatch by itself. Eeek, melds too much with my skin tone and looks a little too grandma-ish!

After I stamped it I was like okay, that looks less like grandma nails? Looks more like grandma’s couch though.

I wish it worked on me because I really do love vintage rose mauves like this. I’ll swap it to someone who can make it look prettier. 🙂

I’d like to point out that American Apparel – Coney Island is a really pretty pastel pink and it stamps SO well!

4 Spring Peaches!

There are only 18 entries in my Spring Giveaway guys, so your chances are really good. Just FYI!

Illamasqua Purity was my first peach polish, and I loved it, so I wanted to do a little comparison of the others I picked up recently!

Here is American Apparel’s Summer Peach. I think pale Peach is much more springy than summery…

I compared it here with Illamasqua Purity. You can see how Purity is more glossy and a little darker of a shade. Both are very pretty!
5639833204_fbb23119e5_o

Then I added another two so I could compare them all side-by-side. The two I added are Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Lulu and a new one that forever21.com had, which was Feminine Wiles by love & beauty. (Their polishes don’t really have names on the bottles so I labeled it as love & beauty’s peach but when I went through to find my old invoice, I saw that on the site, it is named Feminine Wiles. They describe it as baby pink but to me its pretty peachy!?)

Oh, and don’t miss out on Zoya’s Earth Day promo! It is SUCH a good deal! My color spoons should get here by tonight so I’ll be filling my cart before I go to bed. 🙂

Details here!!

Butter London – Teddy Girl

I LOVE this baby pink! Its one of my new favorites now for sure. Its the only Butter London I own because the other colors I tried just didn’t really work for me.

Love the application and love the pretty color. Its more glossy than my other pastel pinks but its so opaque that it works for this color. This is just 2 coats with no problems at all…

It looks yummy enough to drink! (I won’t try though.)

American Apparel – Butter

If this color doesn’t say Easter and baby chicks, then what does!? 🙂

This is the prettiest pastel yellow color I’ve found. I don’t like yellow nail polishes at all, but this one is so cute and pretty, I had to have it! I bought a 2nd one to give to you in my Easter Giveaway too, of course!

Its a really opaque pastel and only takes a coat or two!

I want to show you the difference between this and China Glaze – Lemon Fizz, because I used to think that Lemon Fizz was a cute baby chick yellow until I found Butter.

It depends on how bright you want your yellow I guess, but I prefer the pastel shade of Butter. I hope whoever wins the giveaway likes it as much as I do!

Hello Kitty – Bubble Gum

Oops, I almost went the first day of the week without posting a pastel Eastery color like I said I would. I’m in California so its 10pm and I technically made it. 😉

This is one of the Hello Kitty Sephora polishes. I had the mint green one and had to just get the pink one afterall. I’m not even into Hello Kitty and I just have to have them because they’re so cute! (If they had puppy shaped bottles of nail polish, I’d probably buy all of them… Or llama shaped bottles!)

I actually really liked the application of this one too! This picture shows off the cuteness of the bottle the most…

hellokittybubblegum.jpg

It is almost as blue toned of a pink as China Glaze – Something Sweet, so if you’re a fan of those kinds of pinks, don’t you have to have it in this cute of a bottle?

I’m almost wanting to buy that perfume bottle and decant my favorite perfume in it, because have you seen how cute that bottle is with the vintage puff thingy and everything!?

Turquoise Pastel Creme Comparison

Another polish I custom purchased last week for a swapper was Essie – Turqouise and Caicos. So I did a quick swatch and compared it to my Essie – Mint Candy Apple and Orly – Gumdrop.

Mint Candy Apple is one of my favorites, mostly because it is the most bright minty blue-toned of the other greenish blues I compare it to.

Pinks with hot pink shimmer…

I saw the new Spring displays that Maybelline just put out and wanted to swatch the pinks because they both have the hot pink hidden shimmer inside! Pink Halo and Pink Glimpse.

I picked up both from these:

Then I grabbed my Zoya – Barbie and Nicole by OPI – You’re an Angel to compare them since they all have hot pink shimmer in them.

Left to right, You’re an Angel, Pink Glimpse, Pink Halo, Barbie
5598915993_92b528a17e_o.jpg

Since the hot pink shimmer only shows in the sun I had to get that photo in direct sun. It was still hard to show the shimmer inside of Barbie, so now I feel like I don’t like it as much… her hidden shimmer is a little too hidden.

You can see the hot pink flash the most with Pink Halo, that one is more of a sheer. Pink Glimpse is my favorite though, the bottle that I’m holding. It is a nice white and pink frost with the hot pink shimmer inside and leaves no visible nail line. It is the prettiest to me! I think I’d wear that one with the Pink Halo over it to intensify the pink flash… sounds perfect to me. 🙂

Rescue Beauty Lounge – Lulu

This one ended up being a lot more peachy than pink, but that wasn’t so unfortunate for me anyway because my skin tone does better with peachier pinks!

This one was so much easier to apply than my other pastel peachy pinks, I was able to get this look after 2 coats, where it takes at least 3 with my others.

Lots of light blues! (Part 2)

Part one is here: click if you missed it!

This is the part of the baby blue set that seemed to be a little more greenish-blue.

Ginger + Liz – Boy Toy
Looks more blue in the bottle, has some shimmer to it… I love it, its a cute color.

Essie – Mint Candy Apple, Orly – Gumdrop, China Glaze – For Audrey
Since you’ve seen so many swatches of these already, I just put them side by side.

China Glaze – Metallic Muse
This one works with Konad so I usually stamp with it!

OPI – Sea Ya Later Sailor
This color is so pretty I just want to paint everything with it, look at this closer up…

AQmore – Mediterranean
I’ve talked about this one in the last few days, it is just SO pretty.
5496871025_467bb8b959_o.jpg

Now tell me your favorites! 🙂

Lots of light blues! (Part 1)

The color I’m picking for my wedding is light blue, so I’ve been looking at light blue invitations, flowers, well… everything, of course. My step-sister’s wedding was Tiffany’s blue, and my future sister-in-law’s wedding was periwinkle blue. I’m sure they know how it goes when you know you want light blue but you have to pick the exact light blue you want!

Anyway, although I’m not sure I’ll have any of these on my nails on my actual wedding day, it had me really wanting to compare all of my light blue polishes! (I’m excluding Chanel Riva since I no longer have it and already swatched it in here.) So here we go! 🙂

Don’t those look so pretty all laid out like that?

I’ll start with the two that are my least favorite just because they look too smurfy blue to me.

Color Club – Blue Light
5509946151_bc10efd5c7_o

petites – creme blue

I was able to place the rest in 2 shade categories… baby blue and baby green blue.

Here are the baby blues!

Sephora by OPI – Havana Dreams
This one is a really pretty shade of baby blue. It is a creme and it doesn’t have any dinginess to it.
5510548182_30b1eb09f9_o

Nubar – Baby Blue
This is a really opaque and chalky creme baby blue. Unlike the others, you can probably get away with 2 coats on this one. It almost looks like acrylic paint as you’re putting it on the nail!

Hard Candy – Sky
This is my second most favorite nail polish ever, I could just go on about it forever! haha

Look at that shimmer that comes out, it is just the prettiest thing!

Essie – St Barths Blue
I’m not big on this one. It is really sheer and probably takes about 6 coats to be opaque. It is a shimmery grey-ish blue.

OPI – I Vant to be A-Lone Star
Although this one is a little too grey for me, it is actually really pretty. Its nice and shimmery and applies a lot better than the Essie St Barths Blue. I’d like to compare this to China Glaze Sea Spray, but I don’t have that one yet!

Whew, that’s already a lot for one post, I’ll continue on the next post with the baby greenish blues!

To be continued…

3 Baby Pinks

I wanted to try 2 other baby pinks that seemed a lot like Color Club Vintage Couture. So I got Nubar’s Hotel Baby Pink and their Baby Pink.

Sorry about the horrible quality of swatches I get at night, I have to learn how to handle the lighting in here!

This is Color Club Vintage Couture on the left 2 and Nubar Hotel Baby Pink on the right two:

I can’t tell them apart at all. If I look really really closely, the Vintage Couture looks a tiny bit pinker and the Nubar a tiny bit whiter, but its not noticeable at all. You could walk around with these 2 different colors and no one would be able to tell!

Then on my middle two fingers, I tried the Nubar Baby Pink, which is a little more of a peach-ish tone. I still left the Vintage Couture on the pinky and the Hotel Baby Pink on the index finger.

The more I tried to correct the light in this picture, the more it made them look the same, so I just left this one as-is, so you can at least see the color difference…

What do you girls do when you swatch at night? How do you handle the lighting and your camera throwing off the colors?

Color Club – Vintage Couture

I’m so excited to find a baby pink that looks good on my skin tone! Color Club Vintage Couture!

I guess although I love the brighter pinks, they just don’t look as good on me as these grayer baby pinks do. This one is definitely a keeper for me.

I got my new XL stamping plate today, and some of the other ones that the Chez Delaney store had, so I’m going to use one today.

Hello Kitty – Mint!

I feel like a kid again, these bottles that Hello Kitty has at Sephora are SO cute! I couldn’t pass up getting one!

mnti

I wanted to compare it to Essie Mint Candy Apple since most people are familiar with that one. That is on my thumb, so you can see that the Hello Kitty Mint is a tiny bit more green.

5456621214_2e8590d9a9_o.jpg

I wish the other Hello Kitty colors were my thing, but maybe they’ll come out with some new ones! 🙂

Here is what they have now -> Sephora – Hello Kitty
