Color Club Revvvolution over Zoya Lo

I saw the Vivid Lacquer stamping plates and had to get some!

This image is from VL 005. Its the famous Lorem ipsum quote block in really pretty font!

It seems like everytime I wear Zoya Lo, I love the color but really want to stamp a gray or black over it. Color Club Revvvolution is black holo that stamps nicely.

Blog Sale! Its on! First come, first served! :)

This content is also on my permanent sale page:
http://shimmerspark.com/sale/

We can do paypal, or a check if you’re in the US.

This is first come, first served. I will go by the order in which the emails arrive in my inbox.
Email -> hollyshimmerspark@gmail.com
Subject -> Blog Sale Purchase!

The best method is to use Paypal, which would go something like this:

  • Email me your list of polishes along with your Paypal account email address. Let me know what country I’m mailing to. Also let me know if you are okay to pay as Gift or not.
  • I will send you the Paypal invoice that will itemize the polish list confirmed to be yours and let you know what they cost plus the shipping cost. (I am going to charge exact USPS shipping, I’m not adding any fees or anything!)
  • If you can choose to pay as Gift, Paypal will not take a portion of our money. If you feel uncomfortable paying as Gift, then I will have to add the percentage that they charge us to your amount. They charge 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.

If you don’t want to use Paypal, I can accept a check as long as you’re in the US. You would just have to wait for me to clear your check before I send your polishes.
In that case, just email me your list of polishes and request to send a check. I’ll email you back with your confirmed list of polishes and the cost of them plus shipping.

The most risky option is trying to offer to pay with gift cards or swapping items from my MUA wish list.
Gift Cards I’ll accept are Starbucks, Sephora, Ulta, Babies R Us, Target, Walmart, or you can try me on Department Stores so I can see if they are in my area.
(If someone requests to buy a polish on your list and you’ve requested a swap, I have to go with the sale first. So you might not want to risk trying this method with the really rare and sought after polishes? I’m just trying to give everyone a way to get the ones they want.)

Color Club – Bubble Pop

I tried to swatch this with China Glaze – Flirty Tankini because it is really hard to tell them apart, but I have to swatch in our new place at a certain time of day to get the right indirect sun!

I chose to wear Bubble Pop instead of Flirty Tankini because it was just a tiny bit brighter! Flirty Tankini had more of a vintage coral look and Bubble Pop was more neon and summery. But again, they are really hard to tell apart still, if that makes sense. 🙂

Here is Color Club – Bubble Pop!
bubblepop

It was hard to really depict how neon it is though, so I tried to get a more shady picture so you can see the Pop more. It is REALLY hard to photograph these summer neon polishes!

I am so excited that OPI – German-icure and Every Month Is Oktoberfest are on the way to my house!

Dollish Polish – Cold Winds Are Rising

This is from one of the awesome franken designers on etsy. I couldn’t pass up a grayish blue jelly with pretty blue and silver sparkles in it!

There are also some larger hex glitters in a really pretty darker blue that really stand out when they land on your nail among the other smaller blue and silver particles.

I put it over Color Club – Take Me To Your Chateau this time. I actually saw myself in the mirror after and thought it was too smurfy blue with that underneath. Next time I’ll try putting it over a white and a light gray. I’ll swatch it again when I do!

Here is the base color so you can see how it made it so blue instead of more of the grayish color like the polish is…

I know, my nails are SO short right now… so much envelope-making and other wedding crafts have torn up my nails lately!

Shocking Pink Konad!

neonkonad

I wore this one for days and days, until it was just about to fall off. I loved it so much! I put it on the night we went roller skating at this old historic roller rink in LA.

neonkonad2

So if you look at my last post, I started with the China Glaze – Shocking Pink, but then I took the Color Club – Screamin Fuschia and went over it in places so that it had a neon pink with neon reddish pink blend. I stamped over it with Konad Black Pearl.

The plate I used for this one was A10, which you can actually buy at that place in the link root, but I think I got it from TransDesign or ChezDelaney.

It isn’t summer anymore so I guess I won’t be doing neon again for a while!

Trying a Neon Comparison…

Why is it so impossible to photograph neon polishes? Even when I do everything manually and set white balance, color balance, etc while I’m shooting…

I’ll give this a go anyway in case you were curious if some neon pinks/reds are more orange than another!

I did this to help me choose my neon konad which I’ll post next!

China Glaze – Shocking Pink, BYS – UV Tension Rising, Color Club – Screamin Fuschia, American Apparel – Neon Red:

I tried taking it in a dark corner of my room, but the colors still look like they are just blaring and not true to what they really look like. Wahhh!

You can see my engagement ring a little better though! 🙂

Color Club – Yum Gum vs. Modern Pink and MAC lip gloss ingredient lists!

These are the two hot pinks I have from Color Club that are a plain creme.

Yum Gum on the left two nails and Modern Pink on the right two:

Its hard to tell a difference really! I took one in a dark corner of my room because I think in the shade is where you can see Yum Gum pops a little more…
5881156400_04d9ac7d58_o.jpg

If you wanted this color and couldn’t decide which to get, get Yum Gum because it smells so heavenly!!!!

Okay, so on to the MAC lip glosses! I LOVE their lip glosses. Especially the black line!

It is the only formula that doesn’t dry my lips out, it stays on, its nice and smooth, doesn’t have any negatives for me whatsoever! Since I like to try and make my perfect colors out of frankens at times, I wanted to go on TKB Trading and get some mixes. (If you do this, get the rum or pecan flavor oils, holy crap they make it smell sooo good!) I wanted to find the MAC ingredient list so I could pick the same base, but I couldn’t find an updated ingredient list anywhere!

I asked them on their site and it took them weeks to get back to me, but this morning I finally had the ingredient lists!

I am putting it here in case it will be of use to anyone else. 🙂

Color Club – Pardon My French

I started to really like the look of a light pink that’s whiter than my skin tone and not too blue… so I’ve been adding colors like this to my stash lately!

Do people in other countries say this by the way? “Pardon my french, but fuck that shit.” Is that just a US thing?

Here’s Pardon My French!

Its so early, I’m not liking the getting up at 6am thing.

Color Club – Fast Paced

I hadn’t seen this one swatched so I took a chance when I bought it! Its actually a keeper of mine!

Its a bright pink but a warmer pink, not neon, not hot pink, not baby pink… hard to describe, but the picture is a pretty accurate representation of it, so here you have it!

I start my new job tomorrow and I’m a little stressed, its hard to move my neck and my shoulders are on fire… I usually don’t tense up like this when I stressed, I usually just get a stomach ache, so this is new to me.

Color Club – Revealed

I baked a chocolate cake today with almond flour, cocoa powder, coconut oil, truvia… tried to make it a guiltless one. I hope it doesn’t taste like crap? ha!

Here is Color Club – Revealed! I had such high hopes for it, a pretty peach with a pink shimmer… but unfortunately it was just too matchy matchy with my skin tone so it looks horrible on me.

If you can pull this one off, I envy you, because the polish itself is pretty!

Don’t forget about the Essence @holographics giveaway that ends in a week if you’re in the US!

ManGlaze – Mayonnaise & hot pinks to stamp with!

This was some experimenting I did before the french manicure that I posted in my last post!

First, I put a layer of ManGlaze – Mayonnaise on, so that I could see what these hot pinks were going to look like over white!

Here is a swatch, its a matte white polish with some shimmer!

Here were my hot pinks and one neon green I was going to try while I was at it:

From left to right, those are Color Club – Screamin Fucshia, Konad – Psyche Pink, Sally Hansen – Sonic Bloom, a Kiss nail art polish in Bikini Coral, Revlon Scented – Raspberry Rapture, Sally Hansen – Orange You Cute, Zoya – Ali, Illamasqua – Lament, Diamond Cosmetics nail art polish in neon green, Essie – Pink Parka, and Zoya – Lolly

The 3 on the right didn’t work at all (Diamond Cosmetics nail art polish in neon green, Essie – Pink Parka, and Zoya – Lolly)! But all of the ones on the right did!

Here they are stamped with the new bundle monster plates!

Mother's Day french tips

I wanted to do a french manicure and stamp some pink flowers on. I actually tested a lot of different hot pinks over white, and I’ll upload photos of my experimenting later, but I went with a mix of Konad Psyche Pink and Color Club Screamin Fucshia!

I also put little dots of silver inside the tiny little flowers. The flowers were from Essence stampy plate… hmm it doesn’t have a number, but its a mini rectangle plate!

These pictures were actually taken 3 days later, and it doesn’t look very worn, so I think I found a good combo for my tips!

I just did Orly Anchor, then Orly Bonder, then Orly White Tips. I cleaned the line up with the brush and just put clear Color Club Vivid Top Coat on.

That’s the longest I’ve had it last with no worn out tips!

Water marble!

I made a second attempt at making you guys a tutorial video!

This time, the camera was much better… I’m not sure the educational part was as good since it was my first time water marbling, but hopefully you’ll learn something, even if its how not to? 🙂

The first try was not a success, so I learned something myself… but my second time came out pretty cool! Next time I should be able to do it for a real manicure.

(The polishes I use here are hard candy sky, entity brown plum, color club vintage couture, eyeko pastel, zoya shimmer, and maybelline pink halo.)

Happy Easter! And some pastel blue comparisons…

Here is Eyeko – Pastel Polish!

The bottle shows a lot of hidden shimmer like Hard Candy – Sky, so they are very similar but I think Sky has more white in the base. They are both really pretty though!

I compared it with 2 other pastel blues I’ve gotten recently.
From left to right, Eyeko – Pastel, Color Club – Take Me To Your Chateau, love & beauty – Pearlescent Aqua, Eyeko – Pastel

The bottle in that one is love & beauty – Pearlescent Aqua from forever 21. That one has a lot of shimmer and is more sheer than the others.

Color Club’s Take Me To Your Chateau is SO opaque! It looked like that after ONE coat! No streaks, no bald spots, no cloudiness, just completely opaque. I felt like I was brushing on acrylic paint. Its a must-have!

Oh, and here are the cupcakes I made for Easter! 🙂

I was going to do American Apparel Butter with some black chickys stamped from the Konad plate with the chick, sheep, etc. but I totally ran out of time since I had to make so many cupcakes, so I’m wearing Butter London – Teddy Girl again. I love it so much!

Color Club – Nothing But Truffle & CHI – Love That Milky Way

This one is just so gorgeous where the sun hits it very directly, but other than that it just looks like plain glossy black. I’m so sad, I wish it looked that way all the time! Don’t you just love where the sun does directly hit it?

This one was a real dud for me… CHI – Love That Milky Way. I’m sure its a great formula because it goes on well and is opaque in 2 coats. Its really shimmery, its just like light taupe with light silver/taupe glitter. That translated to a big blah on my nails.

Disliked them both in different ways, but we can’t always love the ones we order can we!?

Lots of light blues! (Part 1)

The color I’m picking for my wedding is light blue, so I’ve been looking at light blue invitations, flowers, well… everything, of course. My step-sister’s wedding was Tiffany’s blue, and my future sister-in-law’s wedding was periwinkle blue. I’m sure they know how it goes when you know you want light blue but you have to pick the exact light blue you want!

Anyway, although I’m not sure I’ll have any of these on my nails on my actual wedding day, it had me really wanting to compare all of my light blue polishes! (I’m excluding Chanel Riva since I no longer have it and already swatched it in here.) So here we go! 🙂

Don’t those look so pretty all laid out like that?

I’ll start with the two that are my least favorite just because they look too smurfy blue to me.

Color Club – Blue Light
5509946151_bc10efd5c7_o

petites – creme blue

I was able to place the rest in 2 shade categories… baby blue and baby green blue.

Here are the baby blues!

Sephora by OPI – Havana Dreams
This one is a really pretty shade of baby blue. It is a creme and it doesn’t have any dinginess to it.
5510548182_30b1eb09f9_o

Nubar – Baby Blue
This is a really opaque and chalky creme baby blue. Unlike the others, you can probably get away with 2 coats on this one. It almost looks like acrylic paint as you’re putting it on the nail!

Hard Candy – Sky
This is my second most favorite nail polish ever, I could just go on about it forever! haha

Look at that shimmer that comes out, it is just the prettiest thing!

Essie – St Barths Blue
I’m not big on this one. It is really sheer and probably takes about 6 coats to be opaque. It is a shimmery grey-ish blue.

OPI – I Vant to be A-Lone Star
Although this one is a little too grey for me, it is actually really pretty. Its nice and shimmery and applies a lot better than the Essie St Barths Blue. I’d like to compare this to China Glaze Sea Spray, but I don’t have that one yet!

Whew, that’s already a lot for one post, I’ll continue on the next post with the baby greenish blues!

To be continued…

3 Baby Pinks

I wanted to try 2 other baby pinks that seemed a lot like Color Club Vintage Couture. So I got Nubar’s Hotel Baby Pink and their Baby Pink.

Sorry about the horrible quality of swatches I get at night, I have to learn how to handle the lighting in here!

This is Color Club Vintage Couture on the left 2 and Nubar Hotel Baby Pink on the right two:

I can’t tell them apart at all. If I look really really closely, the Vintage Couture looks a tiny bit pinker and the Nubar a tiny bit whiter, but its not noticeable at all. You could walk around with these 2 different colors and no one would be able to tell!

Then on my middle two fingers, I tried the Nubar Baby Pink, which is a little more of a peach-ish tone. I still left the Vintage Couture on the pinky and the Hotel Baby Pink on the index finger.

The more I tried to correct the light in this picture, the more it made them look the same, so I just left this one as-is, so you can at least see the color difference…

What do you girls do when you swatch at night? How do you handle the lighting and your camera throwing off the colors?

Color Club – Masquerading

This color is pretty similar to Chanel’s Black Pearl, just more blue!

Here I compared it to Black Pearl with Black Pearl on index and ring fingers, and Masquerading on middle and pinky fingers…

Not the same at all, but very similar in that they are both metallic charcoals with a blue tint. Masquerading just looks more blue. (And costs a lot less!)

Color Club – Electro Candy

I love how every time I go to look up an Orly swatch on Google Images, I see this among all of the nails. HAHA!

355137-orly

Cracks me up every time.

Anyways, onto Electro Candy. I tried so hard to capture the bright green hidden shimmer that this hot pink has but I failed miserably. It looks like a normal shimmer, but I promise, the shimmer really is bright green. Cool, huh!?
